On July the 2nd 2019 the devotees from The B.L.I.S.S Fuengirola temple went on Harinama (street chanting of the maha-mantra) at night as usual. They were this doing for almost 2 years in the city of Fuengirola. After a while they were stopped by a police officer who said the devotees cannot chant without a permission. Shortly after that, another police officer arrived and in an aggressive mood confiscated the mridangam and kartals. The devotees were very sad that now they were not allowed to execute freely this saṅkīrtana yajña without being harassed by the police of Fuengirola.
Since Jagannath prabhu is a prominent businessman in the city, he had some contacts in the town hall. He therefore decided to ask for an appointment with the mayor of Fuengirola. For 2 months devotees could not go out to the streets to chant the holy name until the appointment came to be fixed up on the 17th of September. Devotees prepared to go and present the philosophy of Krishna consciousness and convince the mayor with evidence about why the movement is authorized. A group of devotees led by Krishna Kishora Dasa, Paramahamsa Dasa and Atri Devi Dasi were instructed by Purujit Dasa minutely on how to present their cause. During the meeting the devotees presented many evidences from Vedic literature and testimonials from prominent personalities around the world about the benefit of the chanting for the people in general. The mayor was impressed with the philosophy and agreed that the chanting of Hare Krishna actually brings auspiciousness to the city, and the movement can bring the so wanted peace in the world.
At the end of the meeting the mayor agreed to give a permission for Harinama and book distribution and immediately let know the department in charge of giving permissions to work on the devotees’ case and called the press photographer to take a photo with the devotees. This is a very important moment in the history of the movement of Lord Caitanya in Fuengirola. The leaders are realizing the importance of this movement and especially of this chanting. Everyone should push this sankirtan movement all around the world and be ready to confront any obstacle that could be presented. Thus, it is for sure the blessings of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada will be gained. We want to thank all the devotees involved to make this possible and to the Lic. Ana María Mula Redruello, the mayor of Fuengirola for having received and heard our proposal. All glories to Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu! All glories to the sankirtan movement! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
